Tasked with building a utilitarian, recession-friendly pop-up store that the famous shoe manufacturer could replicate worldwide, Campaign designed the Spitalfields store along the lines of a warehouse. Evoking the brand’s past as a working-class staple (and later as a counterculture favorite), the architects chose cheap industrial materials, all of which are abundant and easy to assemble.

Metal gypframe wall units showcase the shoes on the back wall, construction lights dangle from the ceiling, and wooden shipping pallets stack up to form ready-made display islands. Recovered furniture, wrapped in plastic and scattered around the store, become improvised shoe racks and also form the counter of the cash register. On the back wall, a yellow and white fluorescent light recalls the yellow of Dr. B.’s signature warning tape. Martens, matching the color of the heavy-duty PVC curtain that separates the store from the windows.

The materials used are: the Gypframe metal wall system used to create the display system, the PVC warehouse curtain used to create the store divisions, shrink-wrapped salvage furniture to create the cash register. All signage is stenciled directly onto the storefront or glass floor and lighting is provided by Site Box.

Project: Located in Bangkok and designed by the Thai studio Department of Architecture Co. Ltd, the new site of a software developer, Sunone, presents the designers with a major challenge: preserving the quality of life of existing residents and the working conditions of newcomers.

In order to preserve the serenity of the area, respect the privacy of each residence and simultaneously create a pleasant working environment for the staff, a horizontal screen model was introduced in the project. Not only does it create a visual barrier between the interior and exterior, allowing no direct view from the interior to the surrounding residences, but it also serves as a light filter generating quality lighting for the interior space.

The interior design strategy was designed to promote a flexible and transparent work environment. While the exterior screen reflects the technological nature of the company’s business, the interior screen directly reflects the adventurous personality of the owner and staff.

Industrial materials such as colorful PVC strip curtains were cleverly incorporated throughout the building to reflect the energy and vivacity of these extreme sports enthusiasts. In addition to serving as a partition and enclosure, this screen, thanks to its transparent properties, also serves as an indicator of the privacy level of an area. The use of PVC strip curtains keeps the office space open and transparent.

Project: XTU architects unveils its own “x office”. This multi-layered intervention is a living catalog of the characteristics inherent in their projects. The space offers a large open work area that fosters a collaborative atmosphere. Two green PVC strip curtains separate the spaces where small groups can meet. A third green PVC strip curtain separates the back-office functions.

Corrugated desks provide storage and a large work surface for architects. Their soft geometric silhouette informs a cohesive vocabulary expressed from floor to ceiling by the floor pattern, curved curtain tracks and oblong voids that punctuate the ceiling. The book shelves reinterpret this language with an irregular vertical structure, reminiscent of falling books.

The use of a curved PVC strip curtain can separate spaces while maintaining the brightness. The bright green color contrasts with the rough and matte materials of the place.

The office plan reflects the many layers of the project intervention, characterized by oblong shapes and a variety of textures.

There was a need to create a space where health was taken seriously and training was a solid contributor to a positive outcome. Arii irie architects designed a curved curtain with orange PVC strips as a threshold between everyday life and training. The bright color of the stripes emphasizes the contrast between the two worlds, while the action of passing through inspires awareness of the transition to a different phase.

On the other hand, the fact that one can enter and exit from any location gives the two spaces a sense of unity. The training area is designed as a bare space, free of the “dressed up” daily life, with its finishes completely stripped down. it’s a space where you can face your naked body in a raw atmosphere and focus on training.

The result by Arii Irie architects is a dual space with two different characters, yet held together by the orange PVC strip curtain. The translucent quality of the elements allows light to pass from one side to the other, and even guides people as they move through the space. The curved curtain creates a dynamic interior that matches the energizing atmosphere of the gym.
